I have studied mathematics and physics at the University of Graz, Austria, and the University of Missouri, USA.

My previous research interests were in the field of mathematical physics. In my diploma thesis I studied properties of Dirac operators which arise in the description of relativistic quantum mechanics.

At the University of Graz I was working in the field of control theory and optimization applied to medicine at the Spezialforschungsbereich "Optimierung und Kontrolle". There I have developed a model which simulates the interaction of the human cardiovascular and respiratory control systems. This project is joint work with the North Carolina State University and there is close cooperation with the Institute of Physiology, Uni Graz. For more information see my dissertation. This research work was supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).

From 1999 until 2002 I worked for the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), where I was responsible for research projects in the fields of mathematics, computer science, and geoscience.

Since fall 2001 I enjoy communicating mathematics at the Fachhochschule Technikum Wien. From 2007 until 2010 I was head of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

My husband Gerald is also a mathematician. My father Wolfgang Timischl is a math teacher writing high school textbooks.
